Nat Sherman

As you may or may not know from my submission in the “Ask Richie” section of this site, Nat Sherman will close its doors on or about Sept 15th of this year. All inventory that is available is on a first come first serve basis.

What many people don’t know is that the Founder, Nat started out running a “Speakeasy” during the 1920’s in prohibition New York City. His son Joel believed that his Dad became a partner in a small cigar company making the Epoca brand as settlement of a gambling debt. He subsequently bought out his partner.

Soon after , when a real estate developer had financial problems, Nat gave him a loan and secured retail space on the ground floor of the building to build his first retail store as part of the deal.

Along with selling Epoca, Sherman was the exclusive distributor for Bolivar cigars from Cuba. He developed the first line of all natural cigarettes and his own brands of cigars which exist to this day.

After Nat’s death his son Joel along with his children continued to operate and expand the company’s brands throughout the world. The giant Altria company recently purchased the Sherman’s firm allowing it to operate independently keeping this amazing family legacy intact.
