I’ve always been a fan of “the other” Cohiba brand produced by General Cigar for those of us that can’t buy the Cuban ones. While I’ve watched them steadily rise in price over the years becoming as expensive as their Cuban counterparts, they’ve always been a worthwhile treat for me every now and again. The Red Dot Cameroon wrapped Toro in the silver tube is one of my favorites.
This recent Cohiba Serie M achieved some notable firsts for General being the first Cohiba made in America as a thick Toro sized 6 x 54 along with using a Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper. General choseSandy Cobas’ Miami-based El Titan de Bronze factory for production which was another first. In a press release, Sandy was understandably excited and thankful,
” We created a cigar using only the most exquisite tobacco, working together with the Cohiba team at General Cigar. Unlike in other countries where cigar makers work in teams, our cigar makers at El Titán de Bronze personally create each cigar from start to finish, and we put their name on every single box they make.”
With all that being said, last summer CIgar Aficionado gave it a very respectable rating of 91 accompanied with an interesting description as follows;
“Rolled with a tan wrapper and pigtail cap, this well-made cigar has a strong almond character with notes of caramel, dried cherry and cedar. A leathery streak gains intensity, running right through each tasty layer before the fresh tobacco finish. It burns and draws evenly.”
When one makes its way into my hands, I’ll tell you what I think as well. If you’ve had one, please post a review for us all to read on the site.
